Live Boxing is Back!

Finally, after a long wait, live boxing with spectators is about to return to our screens! And someone has beaten Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren to the punch…

On Sunday 5th of July, Britain’s former Commonwealth champion Scott Dixon makes his return to the ring. In the opposite corner is his old rival Christian ‘Coqqos’ Schembri for what will be their trilogy fight. This will arguably be the first spectator attended event since lockdown began.

Both Dixon and Schembri are well known to British boxing fans: Dixon has shared a ring with Mathew Macklin, Jamie Moore, and Ryan Rhodes – and he even taught Brad Pitt how to box and worked as his body double for the movie Snatch! Schembri’s last bout was in the UK against Nathan Heaney for an IBO belt.

After sport’s long absence, even the casual fan will be tuning in to see this thrilling grudge match. Dixon and Schembri first locked horns back in 2015 with the decision going the British fighter’s way after 10 gruelling rounds.

Their rematch the following year was another back-and-forth nail biter. This time it was Schembri who emerged as the winner after another 10 rounds of non-stop action.

Now it is time for them to settle the score; a third encounter to prove who really is the better man.

About the July 5th bout, Dixon commented: “This is going to be a fight to remember, an absolute war! I’m going to do the business, and if I don’t, then it won’t be for a lack of trying.”

Schembri said: “Me and Dixon are on two fights, we split them, both decisions. I believe I beat him the first time around as well. He believes he beat me twice, now we have a chance to see who’s right. Im ready to stop him in his tracks.”

Promoter Demis Tonna, the man who beat the likes of Matchroom and Queensbury to stage a bout after lockdown, commented: “Christian ‘Coqqos’ Schembri is the only Maltese to beat Scott Dixon and it would be an opportunity for Scott to set the record straight. It will be a cracker. They boxed twice already, winning one each. The trilogy will be the decider.”

Also on the card is rising star and unbeaten prospect Brandon Borg looking to make it nine wins in a row, and exciting Swedish fighter Niclas Elfstedt.
