Zhilei Zhang Boxing Record
Zhilei Zhang Boxing Record: On March 10, 2014, in New York City, Zhilei Zhang embarked on his professional boxing journey, making the announcement of turning pro. To mark this transition, Zhang entered into a promotional agreement with Dynasty Boxing, a firm specializing in the Chinese market. His pro debut in Fallon, Nevada, on August 8, 2014, was nothing short of spectacular, as he swiftly knocked out Curtis Tate in a mere 17 seconds of the first round.
Zhang built an impressive undefeated record of 20–0 before facing Andriy Rudenko in Monaco on November 30, 2019. The Chinese heavyweight dominated the Ukrainian veteran, securing a convincing unanimous decision win with scores of 99–91, 98–92, and 97–93 on all three scorecards.
In his subsequent bout on November 7, 2020, Zhang joined Matchroom Boxing and faced Devin Vargas on the undercard of the WBC lightweight title fight between Devin Haney and Yuriorkis Gamboa. Zhang demonstrated his power by dropping and stopping Vargas in the fourth round.
Returning to the ring on February 27, 2021, Zhang faced Jerry Forrest on the undercard of the super-middleweight title fight between Canelo Álvarez and Avni Yıldırım. Despite a strong start, Zhang’s excessive holding led to a point deduction, and the bout ended in a majority draw.
Zhang faced Craig Lewis on November 27, 2021, securing a TKO win in the second round after dropping Lewis twice. He was then scheduled to fight Filip Hrgović in an IBF title eliminator on May 7, 2022. The fight was initially rescheduled due to Hrgović pulling out, and when it eventually took place on August 20, 2022, Zhang experienced a controversial loss to Hrgović.
However, Zhang’s journey continued as he was set to challenge undefeated WBO interim champion Joe Joyce. On April 15, 2023, at the Copper Box Arena in London, Zhang achieved a significant victory, securing the WBO interim heavyweight title with a sixth-round technical knockout against Joyce. In a rematch on September 23, 2023, Zhang once again defeated Joyce, this time by a third-round knockout.
Looking ahead, on January 15, 2024, it was announced that Zhang would face former WBO champion Joseph Parker on March 8, 2024, as the co-main event of the Knockout Chaos event at Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena. This fight would be another crucial moment in Zhilei Zhang’s ongoing professional boxing career.
